The Eyes Have It

I finished it! The Eye is complete! It was tricky doing the tabs, and there was one happy accident, but it came out great. I love the movement I got in it even though it’s a fairly flat piece. And that blue!

Now it just needs a name and then I’m on to the Super Bowl. I already have an idea that I just need to work out a paper model for.

Oh, and I need to clean my bench…

I’m almost finished with one of those three pieces I have going. If not for the killer headache I got last night (and am trying to fight off even as we speak) it might be done. Just a few more holes to drill, tabs to rivet, wax on, and set that agate “eye” between the “horns.”

I wasn’t planning on the eyeball effect, it just happened. I guess all the agate slices I have look vaguely eye like. But who’s eye is it? Doesn’t feel evil enough for Sauron, and really it just reminds me of that poison lake in Africa. But, again, I digress.

Working with What I’ve Got

So yes, my sawframe is indeed broken, so I had to put off working on the giant bowl/sculpture until the new one arrives. So I had to design something right quick that I only needed a 3.5″ sawframe to cut. I decided to riff on an idea I’ve had fermenting in my brain and do a small standing screen like sculpture with an agate. As you can see, I’m torn between two slices…
