Today was the day and this year’s Art of the State exhibition was another great example of the awesome art Pennsylvania has to offer. There was a great mix of pieces in various styles and media. This year there were quite a number of paintings on panel instead of canvas (which I like) and at least three screenprints (which I also like) and quite a lot of whimsy (which isn’t quite as up my alley.)
It’s fun to see the other artists who’ve been juried back in to the exhibition multiple times. I begin to recognize the names and faces (not to mention the art!) Jason Lyons, Robert Stickloon, Erma Martin Yost, and Drew Zimmerman are just a few of these.
It was also nice to see so many PA Guild of Craftsmen with work again this year. And most of them from the Yellow Breeches Chapter to boot! Jason Lyons, me, Gay Foltz, Gay McGeary, & Erma Martin Yost from the YBC and Sharon Merkel, Sue Reno, & Emily Squires Levine from other chapters/at large members.
My one complaint about the opening would be that moving it to a Sunday afternoon from a Saturday evening changes the atmosphere. People were way more casual and while still pretty packed, it didn’t feel quite as busy. The Saturday evening events felt more like a gala. Also, they ran out of food and drinks pretty early and no booze. But we’re really there for the art and that was spectacular!
