Some people see holes as empty, a place where something was taken away. But a hole can be an entrance to something hidden. Holes offer a sneak peak, a glance into a different layer or world. Alice’s rabbit hole wasn’t empty, but an entrance to Wonderland.

Holes can also highlight. The edges frame what is behind it, showcasing what the viewer should focus on. Holes hold things as well (like my Memento series) or they can be an avenue of escape. They’re a representation of transition.

To some people, holes will always be empty, stagnant places. But to others, they are windows onto another world.
