The contest for April’s AOTM ended in a three-way tie, so I picked among the three for the winner. I chose Karen LaMonte simply because her work seems to defy the medium she uses. Her glass looks like fabric or chiseled classical sculpture and she really moves beyond what the traditional idea of a glass artist is. I love the fluidity of the draped fabric series and the idea of busts without the actual portrait is intriguing. To find out more about her work, visit her website: www.KarenLaMonte.com and you can find her work at Heller Gallery in NYC or Imago Gallery in Palm Desert, CA.
