Target Gallery Downsizes the Art While Upsizing Patron Interaction

Press Release for Target Gallery’s 5 x 5 (x 5) Exhibition

Looking for a more meaningful gift to give this year?  Have you considered art?  You Alexandria has the answer.  Their upcoming exhibit, 5 x 5 (x 5) features 250 works that are all 5” x 5” x 5” or smaller.

The exhibition kicks off with an opening reception on Thursday December 11th from 6-8pm where you can meet some of the artists and the juror, Elaine Levin who handpicked the work on display.  It continues through January 11, 2009, but you don’t have to wait for the exhibition to close to take home your favorite piece.  In celebration of the holiday season, patrons who make a purchase from the show are allowed to take the piece home immediately with them in exchange for a photo of them holding their new possession. This photo will then go on exhibit in place of the artwork just purchased.

“This is a great idea, engaging the viewers in a new way,” says participating jewelry artist Wendy Edsall-Kerwin.  “It brings in an element of audience participation and the artists get to see who their patrons are.  It creates more of a conversation between the two than other exhibitions I have participated in.”

The artists represented in this exhibition are local, regional, national and international artists working in all media, from painting, sculpture, ceramic, jewelry, fiber and more.  The Target Gallery at the Torpedo Factory Art Center is located on the waterfront in Old Town Alexandria, VA. The gallery hours are Wednesday through Sunday 12-6pm and Thursdays 12-8pm. For more information visit http://www.torpedofactory.org/galleries/target.htm or call 703-838-4565 x4.
