August…The End of Summer

One more post about the August Artist of the Month, Leak Piken Kolidas.  I noticed on her gallery site that she is having a sale on her print Leap, so check it out if you like her work.  Her last post on Creative Everyday was about how the downtime in the creative cycle is still a part of the cycle.  Basically, don’t let it get you down, use it to recharge and to find inspiration.  Of course this sounds good to me.

Today I’m making my final batch of jewelry before Kipona.  I’ve decided to work on some more cuffs and earrings.  Hopefully Fay won’t make as big of an appearance as they’re currently calling for and it won’t rain all weekend.  We need rain right now, but I wish it would happen tomorrow or next week. My mother went to Mt Gretna last weekend and she said that attendance looked way down.  I hope that just means that those there were serious buyers and made the trip for a purpose.  Anyway, keep your fingers crossed for me!

Actually, Wendy, attendance at the Mt. Gretna art show was up this year — with gate receipts at an all-time high.

Many artists I talked to said that not only did they have a better show than last year but that the Mt. Gretna show was the best one they’d had all year. At least one exhibitor, Curtis Jenney, sold out of his flora water fountains on Saturday. An artist from Lancaster, Lynne Yancha, told me on Sunday that her sales had been “excellent.”

Weather conditions may have had something to do with that, plus longevity. The Mt. Gretna art show, now in its 34th year, has had pretty stable attendance — even when it rains. And this year, more people seemed inclined to stick close to home, according to the editor of Sunshine Artists magazine.

All in all, it appears that good shows attract good people. Your designs look superb.

  2. I’m so happy to hear that. Mt Gretna has always been a popular show with people coming from at least as far as the Philly area. I’m glad the artists had a great year. And thank you for the compliment!
