Fellowship of the Pendant?!

I have been reading a lot of fantasy lately (OK, always) and I’ve been thinking about the idea of destiny, fate, or in Stephen King’s case, ka.  I was also moved by the post on Creative Everyday talking about sacredness in art and what would you do if you only had 37 days left to live.  Do we have fellowships who come together to reach a common goal, usually to save mankind?  Do these exist in our world or is it really just a fantasy to think that a few people working together can make that much of a difference?

It got me thinking, how many people know what it is that they are supposed to do with their life?  Whether it’s the one thing that only they can contribute to the world, or just that they have found an inner peace in how they live their lives, how many can say that they know what it is they strive toward?

I guess that I’m lucky because I had one of those “aha” moments in college.  I was hammering away my sophomore year working on my metalsmithing project and it just hit me, this is what I’m supposed to do with my life.  You might think that this is a load of malarkey, but I just can’t imagine living the rest of my without making my art and I work hard to try to make it profitable.  What I do, I do because I have to, because I feel that this is what I am to contribute to the world.  It’s my meditation, my spiritual practice.  I know that this sounds like a lot of mumbo jumbo, but I’ve worked a long day today (not making jewelry *sigh*) and I needed to speak from my heart.  Now I’m going to go and kick some troll butt!  OK, I’m going to walk the dog, but we can all pretend can’t we?
