Less than Three Weeks to Kipona!

So you think I’m working feverishly on preparing for the show?  Actually I’ve been finishing up the first part of my Elements series.  I have started, though, on some new and improved cuffs that are actually flexible and thus size-able.  I’m also working on some new, lower priced pendants.  I’m trying to offer a variety of price points since the economy took a downturn, but there’s only so much I can do and still have the work be up to snuff and of my own design.

Speaking of the economic downturn, don’t you think it would be great if everyone who opted for the “staycation” this year still bought a souvenir?  I think that art by local artists would be the perfect idea for a memento of a day trip or at home vacation.  Unlike shot glasses or t-shirts, the price of art goes up and generally people will find you tasteful for buying art, rather than tacky for getting them a t-shirt.  Of course it would help improve my economic outlook if more people bought my work, and that would be more money that I could put into my local community and then it would come around full circle and we would all be happy!  Isn’t it nice living in such a perfect world?

But seriously folks, we all need to support our local economies by using local businesses, farmers markets, and local galleries whenever possible.  We can’t expect the communities to help us out if we aren’t trying to help the other members as well.  What comes around goes around and we could all use some great opportunities right now.  Plus it saves gas if you stay local, think about that savings.

I really didn’t want to get too serious today, but it wanted to come out anyway.  So I’ll leave you with a sketch from the Artist of the Month, Leah Pikens Kolidas…
